I get knocked down

Time 2012-7-31    Source:

It may surprise you to know that the average person gives up on their exercise programme after seven months.

The good news is that, armed with the right information and support, growing numbers of people are busting through the seven month barrier and making regular exercise a lifetime habit.

Difference.

Pretty much everybody quits their exercise programme at some stage - most of us are multiple offenders. The key difference between those who turn exercise into a lifetime habit and the rest is that these individuals usually set powerful goals and – no matter what - they never lose sight of them. When something happens to interrupt their progress they simply take stock, refocus and begin again. To them it matters not a jot how many times they get knocked down, they always get back up again.

Magic.

And then something magical happens. One day they wake up and realise that going to the gym has become a habit. They still have good days and bad days in the gym, but exercise is now such an important part of their life that it makes no difference what kind of day they’re having. Their energy levels increase, they look good, feel great and a whole new world of possibilities opens up.

On Track.

We know that sticking with your programme isn’t always easy but here are three things that will help to keep you on track:

1. Set powerful, inspirational goals. Write them down and never lose sight of them. When you achieve one milestone move on to the next. In the video to the right is one of the all-time great goal setters Zig Ziglar (ignore the accent, this is good advice).

2. Surround yourself with motivational stuff – books, pictures, fridge magnets, posters – put them in obvious places and refer to them often. Want to see something that will inspire you to exercise? Take a look at the video on the right.

3. Stop sabotaging yourself. We all have a little negative voice in the back of our heads that says we can’t do this. Learn to recognise it and then ignore it.

There is nothing you can’t do if you get your attitude right, nothing!
