Weight Loss: It's Not All Equal

Most people think that all weight loss is good weight loss, but the reality is that losing fat is infinitely preferable to losing lean muscle.

A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition reveals that people who eat frequent meals preserve considerably more lean muscle tissue than those who consume the same number of calories but eat fewer daily meals.

Interestingly, researchers in Scandinavia found similar results when they tested two diets on a group of athletes. All of the athletes lost weight, but those who ate smaller, more frequent meals lost mainly fat, while those who ate fewer (but larger) meals lost fat but they also lost some lean muscle tissue.

The bottom line here is that if you want to keep your metabolism fired up - and lose more fat and less muscle in the process - you need to eat smaller, more frequent meals.
