Green Exercise
How much "green exercise" produces the greatest improvement in mood and sense of personal well-being?
A new study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology has a surprising answer that is likely to please people living in a society with much to do but little time to do it: Just five minutes of exercise in a park, working in the garden, on a nature trail, or other green space will benefit mental health - yes, just five minutes.
Abundant scientific evidence shows that activity in natural areas decreases the risk of mental illness and improves our sense of well-being. All natural environments were beneficial including parks in urban settings.
Green areas with water added are a double whammy - blue and green environment seems even better for health. Source: American Chemical Society (2010, May 21). In the green of health: Just five minutes of 'green exercise' is optimal for good mental health.
